With a clear commitment to the hydrogen economy as a technology of the future, NRW Minister for Economic Affairs Mona Neubaur visited the HYDROVERSE CONVENTION 2025 at the Colosseum Theater in Essen yesterday. The event, organised by H2UB, Europe’s leading platform for hydrogen innovation, brought together over 600 experts from across Europe, including start-ups, companies, investors and political decision-makers.
Hydrogen is evolving from hype to business: projects are being planned and implemented worldwide, in Europe and also in Germany. Companies from North Rhine-Westphalia – such as thyssenkrupp nucera, the Essen-based start-up Greenlyte Carbon Technologies and WEW from Dortmund – are making a significant contribution to this.
The focus of Minister Neubaur’s visit was on the Best of NRW exhibition area, where particularly innovative hydrogen start-ups from North Rhine-Westphalia presented their solutions, and a stage talk with Dr. Thomas Hüwener, CEO of OGE, on the transformation of the energy system.
“Hydrogen is key to the future of North Rhine-Westphalia – for climate-friendly energy, new jobs and a strong, independent economy. Citizens will also benefit from this – through clean air, secure jobs and less dependence on expensive energy imports. With H2UB, the European hydrogen hub in Essen, we have created a platform that is unique in Europe, bringing together start-ups, companies and investors from all over Europe to work together on this path,” explained Minister Neubaur during the event.
She was impressed by the innovative strength of the start-ups – not only from North Rhine-Westphalia, but from all over Europe. For the third time in a row, the HYDROVERSE CONVENTION highlights how young companies are actively and effectively contributing to the development of a sustainable hydrogen economy.
