Dr. Thomas Hüwener is Chairman of the Board of Management at Open Grid Europe GmbH (CEO).

Before becoming Head of Line Technology at the Essen-based transmission system operator in 2010, he held various technical management positions at E.ON Ruhrgas AG. He was born in Haltern, studied mechanical engineering in Bochum and at Texas A&M University, specialising in energy technology/plant and environmental engineering, and completed his doctorate at the University of Essen with a thesis on turbomachinery.
